MER Accessories
Electrode Designs & Guide Tubes
Three MER electrode designs provide flexibility in adjusting to different target structures in functional neurosurgery.
MicroMacro Electrode
Combined design with ultrafine microtip and ring-shaped macro contact for simultaneous recording of individual cells or whole groups within a single area. Macro contact used for test stimulation.
MicroMove Electrode (iMM)
Combined electrode with a displaceable microtip for single cell recording. The movable microtip guarantees the smallest possible displacement of tissue during functional neurosurgery interventions.
Macro Electrode
Used to determine the anatomical target point by means of selective test stimulation. Mode of action is comparable to that of a DBS electrode — ideal for pre-implant target confirmation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common clinical and technical questions about the ISIS MER System, as asked by neurosurgeons and neuromonitoring teams across India.
What is the ISIS MER System used for in neurosurgery?
The ISIS MER System is the key technology for Microelectrode Recording (MER) in functional neurosurgery. It is primarily used in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) procedures for conditions including Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, and dystonia. The system improves targeting accuracy using neurophysiological localisation, enabling surgeons to identify the precise anatomical target point in real time. It also supports intraoperative neuromonitoring, pain treatment procedures, and neurological diagnostics.
How many channels does the ISIS MER System support?
The ISIS Headbox MER supports 5 channels for simultaneous Microelectrode Recording and test stimulation at 20 kHz with 16-bit resolution. The ISIS Headbox EMG provides 8 differential amplifier inputs for electromyography recording during MER. When both headboxes are combined, local field potential (LFP) measurements are available for up to 5 channels simultaneously.
What electrodes are compatible with the ISIS MER System?
Three electrode types are available: (1) MicroMacro Electrode – simultaneous recording of individual cells and cell groups; (2) MicroMove Electrode (iMM) – displaceable microtip for single cell recording with minimal tissue displacement; (3) Macro Electrode – for selective test stimulation comparable to a DBS electrode. Guide tubes (Universal, MER, and DBS types) in multiple lengths are also available to support the procedure.
Is the ISIS MER System available in India? Yes. The ISIS MER System is manufactured and assembled?
Yes. The ISIS MER System is manufactured and assembled in India by VCSmed India Private Limited, located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (No. 5, Ariyalur Village, Madhavaram Taluk, Chennai – 600 060).
